The purpose of Title I is to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to reach State learning standards.
Title I, a federal program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, aims to provide financial assistance to schools with a high percentage of students from low-income families. It is designed to help close the achievement gap caused by economic disparity and to improve educational outcomes by offering additional resources, support, and services, such as extra instructional staff, access to technology, and professional development. Title I funds are allocated based on the number of low-income students in a school. We welcome parents and guardians to actively engage in the RDELA Title I decision-making process by participating in our two annual meetings during the fall and contributing to the budget decision-making meetings once our budget is allocated in the spring of each academic year.
Programs funded by Title I include:
Title I was first enacted in 1965 as part of the “War on Poverty.” It was part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) to ensure equal educational opportunities for all children. Its purpose was to close the achievement gap between poor and affluent children by providing additional resources to schools serving disadvantaged students.
